The Windy City and other News!

I've been in Chicago for the past few days for a Creative Freelancer Conference, put on by HOW magazine and Marketing Mentor.

All-in-all it was about teaching me how to run my business better so I can do the best work for my clients and still have time for myself. I'm planning on putting a lot of what I learned into practice when I return home, which will be today.

I met some really great people from all over the continent - Minneapolis, New York, Chicago, Victoria, Windsor, Toronto, North Carolina .... and many more places I can't name off the top of my head but that I could possibly figure out if I dug out all of the business cards I collected.

It was a great opportunity to meet other creative people who were going through the same issues and challenges that I have been going through and to be validated that this is something I can and should do for myself. Some people at the conference have been in business for themselves longer than I've been alive!

I look forward to keeping in touch with my "Park Grill" tribe, as well as maybe keeping in contact with the nice ladies at Function Fox, whose time management program is great for the creative professional.

In other news, I've finally gotten the website to the point where I feel comfortable about it going live.
The official url will be www.jmphotographydesign.ca but until Tuesday, which is when I'm assuming it will actually go live since it's a long weekend, you can sneak peek it at www.jmphotographydesign.ca/lucy.

Have a great day!
I'm going to be in planes, trains and automobiles all day long.

WEBSITE

I almost forgot, another reason I'm a little behind is that I've been working on getting my new website up and running. I was having a little bit of trouble with the galleries but seem to have solved these issues yesterday.

You can check out the site, even though it's not live yet, at www.jmphotographydesign.ca/lucy.

Update!

Okay, so despite my promise to be more prolific in blog posting... it hasn't happened.

Life has been crazy with me working at the newspaper almost full-time until they get a new Special Sections Editor, plus working on my regular contract work and shooting an insane amount.
Hopefully I'll be able to post some of my photos soon. In the past two weeks I've photographed a family, a newborn, a couple, the Keyano College Students' Association executive and some pregnancy shots. I'm going to be shooting my friend Dawn's new baby too this week.

So, stay posted!

Next week I'm travelling to Chicago for a business conference, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get some time to process photos while I'm away.

Confession

I must admit I've been slacking a little on the blog... after all it is summer.

But now I must be sure to keep on things, I've started development on a new website that will lead directly to this blog so it's pretty important that I keep it updated.

After all, since my last post I photographed grad/family photos for an acquaintance Kristi, my friend Jill's wedding, family photos for my best customer Krista and maternity photos for my friend Dawn. As well, in just the past couple days I also shot family photos for Melissa and some newborn photos, also for Krista.

This weekend I have two couples shoots, providing the weather holds, and a photoshoot with the executive members of the Keyano College Students Association.

I'm posting a few of my favourites below from my shoots with Kristi, Krista, Jill and Dawn.
